Yokohama Country Club
Course Overview
Yokohama Country Club was established in 1960, with renowned Japanese architect Takeo Aiyama spending the following six years designing and constructing the club’s East and West championship layouts, each featuring 18 holes.
The West Course gained international recognition when it hosted the Japan Open in 1978—one of the earliest professional victories for Seve Ballesteros. The tournament returned to the club in 2018, played over a specially configured composite layout.
Between 2014 and 2015, the West Course underwent a comprehensive renovation by acclaimed design firm Coore & Crenshaw, with design associate Toby Cobb overseeing construction. The project involved rebuilding and elevating every tee and fairway, using additional material sourced from nearby civil construction works. The original double greens were replaced with modern single greens, and sub-air systems were installed to regulate soil temperatures and maintain optimal bentgrass putting conditions during the summer months.
