Handy Fiji Golf Holidays FAQs
These questions and answers were created using the most common questions travellers ask in the travel forums.
Public Transport
Allow passengers to exit before boarding buses where possible. Public buses are a common and affordable way to travel between towns and villages. Seating priority is generally given to elderly passengers, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. Behaviour on public transport is typically relaxed but respectful.
Walking
There is no strict left- or right-hand walking rule. Footpaths may be limited outside major towns such as Nadi and Suva, so pedestrians often walk along the roadside. Stay alert to traffic and step aside if stopping.
Driving
Driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Seatbelts are required for drivers and passengers. Roads can be narrow or winding in rural areas, so drive cautiously. Many visitors choose taxis, hotel transfers, or organised tours instead of driving.
Language
English is widely spoken and is one of Fiji’s official languages. The other main languages are Fijian and Fiji Hindi. Visitors generally have no difficulty communicating in English.
Prices & Tax
Prices typically include Value Added Tax (VAT), which is currently 9%. Some hotels and resorts may add service charges or resort fees.
Tipping
Tipping is not customary in Fiji. Many resorts have a “no tipping” policy to maintain equality among staff. However, donations to staff appreciation funds or small gestures for exceptional service are welcomed.
Drinking
The legal drinking age is 18. Alcohol is widely available in hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops. Popular local drinks include Fiji Bitter and kava, a ceremonial beverage made from the root of the yaqona plant.
